  • I am a PhD student and lecturer at Utrecht University. My PhD project lies at the intersection of philosophy and ancient medicine. In particular, I am focusing on the practice of dissection in the Hellenistic period through the work of Herophilus of Chalcedon and Erasistratus of Ceos. My dissertation proposes a reconstruction of their epistemological views and aims to shed light on the innovation introduced by Herophilus and Erasistratus in the practice and theory of medicine. As such, it also addresses, from a philosophical point of view, the interaction between science and society in breaking new ground, and between science and philosophy in the Hellenistic period.
