Mothers or Wives? Divinised Queens in the Ptolemaic, Seleucid and Attalid Kingdoms
This talk analyses the different ways in which competing Hellenistic dynasties justified and authorised the divine status of their queens. Some stressed their role as wives, others as mothers. I will explore the literary and iconographical evidence for these differences and explore their implications.
